Science Librarian


The Furman University Libraries invite applications for a fulltime faculty position as Science Librarian (at the rank of Assistant Librarian, Associate Librarian, or Librarian, depending on the candidate’s qualifications). The position will begin January 1, 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter. The Science Librarian will join the library faculty as a member of the Outreach Services Division and will be the branch librarian in Furman’s Sanders Science Library.

The Science Librarian will collaborate closely with students, faculty, and staff in the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Environmental Sciences, Health Sciences, Neuroscience, Physics; interdisciplinary minors in Environmental Studies and Medicine, Health, & Culture; students on the pre-health majors track; and the new Master of Science in Community Engaged Medicine.

The ideal candidate will be flexible, motivated, and creative, with a clear commitment to diversity and inclusion. The Science Librarian will have the opportunity to apply for funds to support conference travel, research, and other professional development activities; they will be invited to join Furman’s Faculty Development Center program for new faculty; and they may apply to participate in other University initiatives across campus.
